A series of new and ongoing initiatives is helping to enable federations to reach their full potential, such as creating their own strategic plan for the future through the FIBA PLUS Programs and developing grassroots basketball through the World Association of Basketball Coaches courses and the FIBA Foundation’s Mini Basketball activities. FIBA will continue its focus on this area until 2027 with the strategic priority set to continue following approval at the recent XXII FIBA Congress held in Manila in 2023.

The aim is to educate them on good health and wellbeing, providing Mini Basketball organizers with the tools to help keep children active with enjoyable and playful activities.

GOAL 3: Level up the game

With the objective of improving the quality of basketball, FIBA's aim is to develop high-quality coaches, referees, and equipment, which are essential for further player development.$

FIBA continues to work closely with the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) to deliver coaches courses based on the WABC manuals (Level 1-2-3). Over 100 courses are being delivered yearly worldwide, in addition to Virtual Coaches Clinic Series coordinated by FIBA Regional Offices.

Further investment is being made on the development of Basketball coaches, through both the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) program, and the International Coaching Apprenticeship in Basketball (ICAB) program.

Additionaly, FIBA and the WABC continue to development FIBA Coach Instructors, with the long-term view to build capacities of National Federations to conduct even more FIBA/WABC courses in their respective territories,

The quality of referees and more largely of all officials across the globe is crucial and FIBA has developed the FIBA Manuals (Level 1-2-3) for referees, at the national level.

FIBA continues to support medical staff working for national teams, facilitating information sessions via webinars. Dedicated event webinars take place with team doctors prior to main FIBA competitions, led by the FIBA Medical Commission with a focus on injury prevention and reporting. During the pandemic, FIBA launched an Executive Marketing Program that emphasizes commercial planning, with participants learning about marketing plans, sponsorship, and game-day revenues. To date, 267 executives have registered for the program.

In addition, webinars and online meetings are regularly conducted in order to provide hosts with up-to-date information and knowledge, as well as to assist LOCs in tackling different aspects of their preparations. National Federation personnel continue to take part in webinars and information sessions on topics including anti-doping and medical matters, as well as integrity related matters, to ensure that relevant staff are up to date and informed prior to events.
